My name is Jamie, I’m also known as the MTHFR Momma on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. After years of generational struggles within my family, we found an extremely common yet hugely undiagnosed culprit: the MTHFR gene mutation.

My following was built centered around heavy metal toxicity and the MTHFR gene mutation when my daughter began experiencing physical issues and developmental delays caused by this gene mutation. This is a gene that can be turned on due to heavy toxic loads. I come from a background of addicts and alcoholics and thankfully made it out of my own addiction. Holistic health became an interest of mine shortly before my daughter was born. I was told that I would need in vitro if I wanted to conceive a child because I would never be able to conceive one on my own. I wasn't going to accept this reality. That’s when I decided to change everything about my life.

I went toxin-free and completely switched my diet to include a lot of leafy greens and vegetables. To our surprise, we received news of our sweet Charleigh girl. Yet the reality was I had no idea about methylation issues, MTHFR, or nutrient deficiencies back then, although I knew internally that there was something genetically “wrong”. Call it mother’s intuition. I began to connect the dots because there had to be a reason for so many addiction and mental health issues in my family. For most of my life I ate the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) and was not supplementing with any vitamins or minerals and was unaware of what toxicity was or my own toxic overload. At around 18 months, my toddler began showing signs of developmental delays and heavy metal toxicity, even though by this time, we were eating mostly organic food. However, organic doesn't mean there are no heavy metals in the baby food, formula, rice cereal or oatmeal. In fact, those are some of the most contaminated foods. Most people would say “it’s in my genes” and leave it at that, as if I should mentally prepare for what is to come down the pipe. But my family’s fate wasn't going to be my child's fate. Addiction and mental illness weren't going to be her story. I moved into action to educate myself about the MTHFR gene mutation and have been healing my child in the process for the past two years. Aside from trauma, addiction and obsessive thoughts can all be traced back to nutrient deficiencies. Are you or a family member experiencing health or developmental issues? It may be connected to a heavy toxic load. Heavy metal detoxing is our first call to action on our journey to regain our health.
